EnerSys introduces new PowerSafe® iON lithium-ion battery solutions to improve backup power resiliency for cable broadband networks

READING, Pennsylvania, September 19, 2022 – EnerSys® (NYSE:ENS), the global leader in stored energy solutions for communications applications, has introduced the PowerSafe® iON 36-1800, a new Lithium-ion battery that when coupled with an Alpha® XM3.1-HP Broadband UPS and enclosure provides Cable Broadband operators extended run time systems to maintain network operations for up to 72 hours after an electrical grid outage. One of the first applications for this high-capacity battery system is to address the mandate set forth by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requiring facilities-based service providers to create emergency operations plans and develop 72-hour backup power resiliency programs. These new PowerSafe® Lithium-ion systems will be featured at the SCTE Cable-Tec EXPO taking place September 19-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA.

"The mandate presented by the CPUC gave us another opportunity to demonstrate our relentless focus on helping our customers overcome their challenges,” said John Hewitt, VP Broadband Communications. “As a technology partner with extensive experience in understanding cable broadband networks, we were able to work closely with our customers to rapidly respond with finely tuned systems for these new applications. We combined EnerSys’ unique blend of Lithium-ion and Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) batteries, power systems, cabinets, and services, into solutions to deliver great value to our customers.”

The PowerSafe® iON 36-1800 battery is a compact, 36VDC Lithium-ion battery capable of delivering 1800 Watts of power. These advanced batteries, when combined with the Alpha® XM3.1-HP Broadband UPS and an EnerSys® outside plant cabinet, can deliver runtimes from 2 to 72 hours. For geographies that require additional battery reserve, but less than 72 hours, the EnerSys Extended Runtime (XRT) product family provides a range of solutions based on both our industry-leading Lithium-ion and TPPL batteries.
